STILL · a tool for editors and designers
Discover museum images the institution itself declares open. Find a work, see what the museum said about it, and take the credit with you.
Open Art Finder can be wrong. It repeats what each museum publishes about its own works, and a museum record can be incomplete, out of date or mistaken. Nothing here is checked by a person. Open the museum’s own record before you publish.
Only selected images passing the source-specific Public Domain / CC0 checks. Nine sources are searched: The Met, Cleveland, SMK, Wellcome Collection, Rijksmuseum, Minneapolis, Smithsonian, Europeana and Paris Musées. The status beside each source describes this search.
No. Each record keeps the source’s declaration and rights instrument separate. Review the original record and the linked instrument.
Check the chosen file and the source terms for your intended use. The source statement and publication pack do not clear every possible right or guarantee a particular use.
Your browser loads images from official source links. STILL caches permitted search metadata for one hour and stores permitted observations in its evidence journal. It does not store artwork image files. Browser image caching follows the source’s response headers.
Open the artwork record: the draft credit is shown there, and Copy credit copies it. Prepare for publication offers other credit formats and Copy all. Required credit stays in every format; museum collection credit is separate. Citation drafts need style review.
In this browser, and nowhere else. A collection is not an account and it is not kept on STILL’s servers, so it does not travel to another browser, another device or another person. It holds only references to museum records — which source, which object, which file, and which entry in the evidence journal. No image is saved: STILL never stores, copies or re-serves artwork files, and every picture you see is loaded straight from the museum. Up to five collections of twenty works each. Export what you want to keep before you clear your browsing data or change device, and note that strict privacy settings can stop a browser storing anything at all when the tool sits inside another page.
Search is paginated. Show more continues available source pages; 24 is not a total-result limit. Unknown rights, unavailable files, filters and withdrawals can reduce results. This is not a complete catalogue.
It is the server UTC time of a successful source response. Cache reads and exports preserve it. Recheck source makes a new request; a failed request does not refresh the successful observation.
Use the reporting contact in STILL’s Copyright & Intellectual Property policy. Include the source URL, object ID, image link and observation ID where available. Withholding removes an item from new searches and exports; historical observations remain.

Source information is not a licence, certificate or guarantee. Whether to use an image is your decision, and satisfying yourself that you may is your responsibility. STILL passes on what the institution stated and grants nothing of its own. Confirm the current source record before publication.
